Brightness
Brightness is one of the most important characteristics of any display. The main unit of brightness for light sources is candela (cd). The brightness of individual LEDs is usually expressed in millicandelas (mcd - a thousandth of a candela). If individual LED brightness in one square meter is added together, we get the value of area brightness. It is expressed in Nits (1 Nit = 1 cd/m2 - candelas per square meter).
LED
LED is an abbreviation for light emitting diode. An LED is a solid-state electronic device that is much more efficient than an incandescent lamp. LEDs contain chemical compounds that emit light when an electric current passes through them. Different chemical compounds emit different colors of light. Unlike incandescent lamps, LEDs have no filaments that can burn out or fail. Tickercom uses the highest quality LEDs from the top manufacturers in the world. Throughout our website LED color choices are shown in the following manner: R-red; A-amber; Y-yellow; G-green (maybe yellow green); PG-pure green; B-blue; W-white; RG-red and green; YB-yellow and blue; RGB-red, green and blue.
LED Lifetime
An LED’s light output will degrade or radiate fewer lumens over time. LED lifetime mean the time taken for a LED to emit 50% light of its initial state at the condition of proper drive current and with a set of environmental conditions. Most LED manufactures or LED chips producer announce the lifetime of their products is 100,000 hours, however there are a lot of factors influencing LED lifetime. Temperature is an important factor. Heat created by the current flow through LED will cause LED inner temperature to rise higher than the environment. If the junction temperature of a LED goes above 90C for any appreciable period of time, the lifetime of the LED will be shortened.
Pitch (pixel-pitch)
Pitch is the distance between the centers of adjacent pixels. Simply put, the smaller the pitch, the closer the pixels are to each other; the larger the pitch, the farther apart the pixels are from each other. A smaller pitch also means a shorter optimum viewing distance for the display.
Pixel
Pixel is short for picture element. Pixels are points of light that illuminate to form letters, words, graphics, animation and video images. A pixel can be made up of a single LED, multiple LEDs of the same color or multiple LEDs of different colors. A pixel is the smallest element of the electronic display system that can be individually controlled or turned off or on at various brightness levels.
Resolution
Resolution is defined as the number of pixels contained in the physical area of an electronic display. The greater the number of pixels, the greater the amount of information displayed. The total number of pixels usually expressed as W x H where W and H denote the horizontal and vertical number of pixels.
